Healthy Snack Ideas from Idaho Gyms

Choosing the right foods not only helps fuel your body for better performance, but eating properly also works hand-in-hand with the exercise you’re working so hard to accomplish.

We’re not just talking about breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Snacking is also a great way to stay satisfied throughout the day; but are you choosing the best in-between meal tidbits?

Healthy eating and regular exercise pack a one/two punch when it comes to weight loss and better health. Let’s see how.

Snacking Keeps Your Body Fueled

Eating protein-filled snacks throughout the day keeps your blood sugar and insulin levels stabilized, so you’re less likely to feel hungry. A late afternoon snack of an apple with peanut butter might help you fight that urge to snooze. Stick to Fresh Food

Do your best to avoid refined sugar and flour, and eliminate prepackaged and processed snacks from your desk-drawer stash. Try these instead:

  • A handful of almonds, walnuts or pistachios
  • A few pieces of dark chocolate
  • Non-fat (or low-fat) cottage cheese with peach slices
  • Non-fat (or low-fat) Greek yogurt topped with blueberries or slivered almonds
  • Carrot and celery sticks with hummus — there are lots of spicy and unique flavors available

Stay Hydrated

Ensuring your body is adequately hydrated will keep hunger pangs at bay too. Coffee and soda don’t count!

As you snack, and this goes for every meal, watch your calorie intake and serving size.
